Agricultural Drone Buying Guide: How to Choose a Spraying and Spreading UAV

The right agricultural drone depends on the crop, field layout, material, payload system and daily operating workflow—not only on maximum capacity.

Select the agricultural drone around the material and field workflow first. Spraying, fertilizer spreading, monitoring and mapping require different payload systems and operating plans.

Define the Agricultural Drone Mission First

Agricultural drones may support crop spraying, foliar application, fertilizer spreading, seed distribution, crop monitoring or field mapping. These are not interchangeable missions.

A spraying drone uses a tank, pump, pipes and nozzles. A spreading drone uses a hopper, metering system and distribution mechanism. Monitoring and mapping platforms may need cameras or other sensors instead. Start by deciding what the aircraft must apply, observe or measure.

What Matters When Choosing a Crop Spraying Drone?

Tank capacity affects refill frequency, but it does not describe the complete spraying workflow.

Also confirm pump flow, spray width, nozzle type, application rate, crop canopy, refill location and battery turnaround. The current HV50 agricultural configuration lists 12 L/min spray flow and a 6–10 m effective spray width with dual centrifugal nozzles. Actual results depend on wind, crop condition, liquid properties, height and route design.

Why Fertilizer Spreading Needs a Different Configuration

Granular material behaves differently from liquid. A fertilizer spreading drone needs a hopper, metering system and spreading mechanism rather than a spray pump and nozzle set.

Confirm granule size, density, moisture, target application rate, hopper capacity and distribution pattern. Current AeroSightX configurations include an optional 33 L spreading box for XJ-A20, an optional 50 L box for XJ-A30 and an 80 L spreading hopper for HV50.

A useful comparison includes field movement, refill time, battery planning and support—not only tank size.
